Chicago-based Clean Core Thorium Energy (CCTE) has published a paper challenging BARC’s safety concerns over its thorium-based fuel ANEEL, claiming it can be used in India’s existing PHWRs without redesign. The fuel has completed irradiation tests and promises six times more energy than natural uranium, but remains in pre-licensing stage. This is critical for UPSC: India’s nuclear energy strategy, thorium cycle, and international nuclear cooperation.
